I am a wine enthusiast living in Hungary (and also a co-owner of a small wine-shop in Budapest). We will visit Bourgogne in the first weeks of July and we would like to visit some wine-producers as well. I heard that it is not possible to visit most of them however i hope there might be some exceptions..)) Could anyone of you be so kind to suggest domains or wine-producers or negociants who could be visited by us. Do you think it is possible that some of these people show not only their wines but take you out to their vineyards as well... Unfortunately, my french is quite poor so i am looking for wine people who might speak English too...Thanks for your help in advance.

The big problem in Burgundy will be to found some wine producers who speak english.
You can visit:
_ Olivier Leflaive in Chassagne Montrachet , and you can taste these wines on his restaurant
_ In Beaune you will find the big negociants : Maison LATOUR, JADOT, FAIVELEY and they speak english too.

You have to start from these adresses and the gents will provide you some more adress.
In Beaune and Nuits St Georges, you will find some Tourist assistance Houses were they can help you

thank you very much for your kind answer. However, two things came to my mind...
First i guess there are a younger generation of Burgundian winemakers, maybe they speak English too... Or there are a couple of foreigners who started some business there like Alex Gambal. For example what about him??
The other thing is that my sister may come with us and her french is way much better. In this case can you recommend some winemakers who are really making some fine wines and are open enough to show foreigners like us around??
I saw Mondovino. I really liked the de Montille family, they seemed to be really nice people and read they have excellent wines. Do you think there is any chance to visit them?? Maybe the two younger Montilles might speak English as well.

As Claude just suggested, few winemakers speak english.
Only wine merchants such as Jadot, Drouhin, Latour have employees who speak foreign languages, not only English but also German or Dutch for instance.

If you are interested in winemakers who have a wide range of wines, I think you should contact persons such as Alex Gambal (who spent a few time in the US) or may be Frédéric MAGNIEN in Morey-Saint-Denis www.frederic-magnien...

Don't forget to take an appointment. There will be few people who will accept to spend many hours without being informed before. This is the rule in Burgundy but there are very rare exceptions.

Concerning the visit of the vineyard, I don't think that winemakers have the appropriate organization. Actually, it means that they would have to drive you out to their vineyards that are often scattered.
But you could always asked while taking the appointment.

Nevertheless, I wish you will have the desired answer.

Hi. thanks for your kind answers.of course, i make an appointment in advance.if i won't see their vineyard, hope can have a look at the winery... i am really interested in the winemaking methods there. Also interested in how the vines are maintained,e.g. prunning...
